A Field Engineer’s Reflection: My JST-12 Journey in Oran
For over a decade, I’ve worked deep in the Algerian desert as a petroleum engineer, navigating wells, production challenges, and long days under the sun. But in June 2025, I found myself stepping into a new space — the 12th Scientific and Technical Days of Sonatrach (JST-12), held in Oran.
It was more than a conference. It was an exchange of ideas, experiences, and energy among Algeria’s finest minds in oil and gas. I was honored to take part as a technical presenter, sharing my field-based contribution titled:
“Enhance Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESP) Performance for Better Production Sustainability Using Machine Learning.”
This presentation was born from real-world experience — hours in the field, learning from equipment, and understanding what truly affects performance in harsh conditions. Standing in front of fellow engineers and experts was not just about sharing data, but about giving a voice to what we live every day on the ground.
Beyond presenting, the most valuable part of JST-12 was connecting with professionals from across the country, exchanging insights, and feeling seen — not just as a woman in engineering, but as someone with something valuable to contribute.
I’m grateful for the opportunity, for the feedback, and for the reminder that growth often happens outside of our comfort zones.
This experience has inspired me to keep pushing forward, to share more, and to continue representing the strength and dedication of Algeria’s field engineers — especially the women breaking ground every day.
To every woman working silently behind the scenes — your story matters. Share it.
And to every engineer in the field — your experience is knowledge. Own it.
